Trouble with a capital T

I am protesting the new "baby gate" - no, I will not pass by it. Here is my protest on the first night it was installed.

All this fuss over cracking the living room window - I really needed to look out that window before Ziggy, so I ran fast and put my feet on the window to stop. Ooops.

I hate the baby gate.

This is all I have done in the last few months... all I do is grow coat!

Well, that and dip my face in anything wet and dirty I can find!

Ziggy the Snitch is mad at me. See his paw - he won't let me look out the window. And I NEED to look out the window. I am really bored. For more than three months I haven't left the house. Worse, she was in a wheelchair for 3 months, then a walker for a month and now a cane... I am bored and I want to look out the window!

So in my desire to be of service, I had her rest her foot on me. I hold real still and try to show her that I am sorry.

To be of service...

I am a little afraid of the big plastic thing, but I am toughing it out and being brave. I am working so hard to be a good dog. I will just keep her foot warm - that should help!

Here is my worried little face.

FrankenKnee! - Displaced Tibial Plateau Fracture

I have no idea what is going on. Here is what I know:

Okay, after a month of not going ANYwhere - my hairdresser kept making this weird barking sound and just stayed in bed. She told me she had a cold (like I know what that is!) Actually, it wasn't so bad, cause Chef Daddy feeds me when she is sick and he always gives me way more chicken and other yummy stuff than my hairdresser.

Finally she got better and started taking just me to the place where I got to run as fast as possible with all these other dogs. I love that place. She says she has to take me so I can lose weight after Chef Daddy fed me snacks for a month. I don't care why, I love that place. There are lots of dogs who just get CRAZY about chasing a stupid ball. I think that's silly. Especially when there are so many dogs chasing balls. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE chasing them and trying to get them to all stand together against the fence.

Friday we met a boy sheepdog. He was so odd looking. He had a tail! He walked and ran funny with that tail. Not like a bear at all. But he was half my age and twice my size. He was crazy and kept rolling me over, so I HAD TO nip his face a couple of times until he stopped rolling me in the grass.

Saturday I played with a poodle and a schnauzer, but mostly I chased the Golden Retrievers. Oh joy!

Sunday was excellent. There were some Greyhounds. WOW can they run fast. I couldn't keep up. There were Salukis too. Wow! They ran so fast. I tried so hard to catch them, that at first I cried a little while I was chasing them. But then I figured out if I put my head down and just ran as fast as I could, it was better - and I could almost catch them - and none of the other dogs could catch any of us.

Monday we got there later cause it was warmer that day. I didn't really want to run that fast. But there was every shape and size of Australian Shepard: babies, big ones, and puppies of every size. They were all hanging out together so I had no one to chase. It was starting to get dark and all the little ones left. But two stayed behind. And guess what... they were the fastest ones yet! We were having such a good time. I was chasing them both as they ran after Frisbees, balls and anything else their hairdressers threw in the air. I was running so fast and I was running the entire length of the park... a whole acre of fast running. I was having the very best time.

And then, oops. I ran into something really hard, when I was running as fast as I could. The next thing I knew, my hairdresser was on the ground (you know, the icky dog ground at the park she says she doesn't like to touch?) Well gosh she was laying flat on her back with her arms above her head in that stinky dirt. And she wasn't moving.

By the time I made it back to her, the Aussies were there with their hairdressers. Their hairdressers were talking to my mommy. And I was confused. I didn't understand what was happening.

The Aussies told me she flew up in the air and then fell down on the ground. They told me that I ran into her. They said just as I was about to hit her, I saw her and tried to miss her, but it was too late. I hit her with my shoulder square into her knee. I sorta remember a loud popping sound.

She made some really loud screaming sounds that sounded scary. All the other dogs in the park were all gathered around, looking at her. People ran from all over the park and they all stood next to their dogs and looked at her. I think Petey was gonna try to mark her. He marks everything. But he had to wear his leash after that. She finally got up and crawled into a chair. People helped her.

Then it got all scary. She used a chair to hop to the door of the park. It was a long way, we were at the other end. I kept trying to take care of her and I circled her a bunch of times. Someone I didn't know took me by my collar and put me in the back seat of my car. Someone else took the precious car keys and drove our car to the park entrance. Then my mommy tried to get into the car, but a bunch of people had to help her.

She took me home and when we got there, she honked the horn a bunch of times. Chef Daddy came running out. He took me by the collar and put me in the house. I ran fast. I didn't understand what was happening. I looked out the window and they took my favorite car and left.

Chef Daddy didn't come home until after 1 AM. And I didn't get my dinner until almost 2 AM! And mommy didn't come home. That was the first time she ever spent a night away.

Tuesday - Chef Daddy left the house before it was light outside. He said Mommy was having surgery first thing this morning.(I like it that he talks to me, but does he know I don't understand what he says? I do understand things like "crate", "car" and "cookie" though. Why can't he talk to me about those things, because I need to understand everything.)

So I spent most of the day barking at anything that moved. And the neighbors told on me. I was in a bad mood.

Chef Daddy didn't get home until really late that night. And Mommy didn't come home again. Doesn't she know she has to enter the Merced dog show today? Did she remember it was my Godmother Denise's birthday?

Wednesday - Another day passed and I got dinner late. No Mommy. No dog park. So I barked most of the day again. Usually that makes Mommy come yell at me. And played in my water bowl. Then I rolled in the dirt and tracked dirt all through the house. That always makes Mommy come and clean me and the house up. I keep waiting by the window and watching for Mommy. Ziggy says she will be back. But where is she?

Thursday - Mommy came home late today. But she is making faces and loud noises. She has a wheel chair. She has a big thing on her leg and it sticks straight out in front of her, like she wants someone to jump over her leg. Chef Daddy won't let any of us in to see her. He put the baby gate up in the house so we can't get down the hallway to the bedrooms. Ziggy The Snitch is really upset cause he always sleeps on Mommy's bed.

So for now, Ziggy and I sleep together with our noses under the baby gate.

I am really confused and I don't understand what is going on.

...to be continued
